Elder Abuse and the Law in Missouri
Updated: Jan 14, 2020
I’m going to explain what a mandated reporter is in the field of Gerontology, and what is required by law in the state of Missouri.
“The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) investigates abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals 60 and older and people with disabilities between 18 and 59. ... If you suspect someone is being abused, bullied, neglected or exploited, call the hotline at 800-392-0210.”
As the owner of Safe Aging of the Ozarks, I and my staff are REQUIRED to report abuse. And make no mistake, we will. If you ask us to report, WE WILL. This isn’t a game, a joke, a hobby or a social club. This is a business. Once reported, it goes to the state level and therefore out of our hands and legally releases us from liability.
If a client abuses someone in this company, we have the right to refuse service. If you are unsafe to be alone without our services, social services will be called and you will be in their care.
If you are being abused or need help I encourage you to call the local police departments or social services, the number again is:800-392-0210. I encourage you to look at the link below.
